Mt. Everest is the highest mountain in the world, standing at 29,029 feet (8,848 meters) tall. It is located on the border between Nepal and the Tibetan Autonomous Region of China, and is known as Sagarmatha in Nepali and Chomolangma or Qomolangma in the Sherpa and Tibetan languages.

Many adventurous travelers have “Climb Mount Everest” on their bucket list. There are a variety of ways to admire the mountain’s beauty: for those who don’t wish to trek, there are scenic airplane and helicopter flights from Kathmandu or overland trips to Everest Base Camp on the Tibet side of the mountain.

If you’re up for a physical challenge, you can trek to the base camp from the town of Lukla in Nepal, which takes a couple of weeks. Mountaineers with a generous budget can attempt to climb the mountain – this is an extreme challenge even for the most seasoned mountaineers.
